Expert Answers about Chevrolet A-Frame Trailer Coupler

  • Are There Replacement Parts for the A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Round Jack Hole CA-5280-RB
  • I do have weld-on, a-frame trailer couplers in which replacement parts are available but the A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Round Jack Hole part # CA-5280-RB is not one of them. The Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler part # 12660-97SP and Bulldog Heavy-Duty Cast Head Coupler part # BD44150W0317 both have replacement coupler repair kits, the Demco Composite eZ-Latch Repair Kit part # DM6008 and the Repair Kit Fulton Wedge-Latch Cast Head Coupler part # F670801. I recommend the Demco 50-Degree...

  • Replacement A-Frame Trailer Coupler For 1978 Airstream With 50 Degree A-Frame
  • It would appear that that your 1978 Airstream had the standard 50 degree a-frame style coupler. You can verify this to ensure that the etrailer A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5280-RB will fit correctly on your Airstream. I personally prefer the auto latching style couplers like the Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler # 12660-97SP. This coupler for me is cleaner and works simpler with the latching system. The connection for the jack has nuts welded on to the bottom of the plate making...

  • Replacement for Weld-On A-Frame Coupler with 14,000 lb Capacity
  • The coupler you referenced does not have replacement parts or a latch repair kit so if the thumb latch is busted you will need to replace the unit with the A-Frame Coupler # CA5400. You can replace it with the same unit, the A-Frame Coupler # CA5400 which has has an oily finish but the same one is available without the oily finish and a black coat of paint, the A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5400-B. There is another option if you want to go with a different manufacturer, the Fulton A-Frame...

  • Standard Angle for A-Frame Trailer Tongue for Coupler Replacement
  • The standard angle for an A-frame trailer tongue is 50 degrees. More than likely your trailer follows the standard. Since you are unsure, you could measure it using a tool like a protractor. The Demco Cast Head Coupler # DM37ZR you looked at fits the standard A-frame and would be a great replacement choice.

  • A-Frame Coupler Replacement for 1988 Argosy Airstream
  • Yes the Fulton A-Frame Coupler # FE443050303 that you referenced will work great to replace the coupler you have on your trailer. Trailer manufacturers all made the angles of the front of their trailer the same (50 degrees) which allows replacement couplers to be easily found like this Fulton.

  • Replacement A-Frame Coupler That Measures 11 Inches At Widest Point
  • The Redline 14K capacity A-Frame Coupler, part # CA5400 you referred to measures 11 inches wide at its widest point, like the A-Frame coupler you showed in the photo you provided (thanks for the photo, by the way.) The # CA5400 is compatible with 2-5/16 inch trailer balls, and would make an excellent replacement for your current corroded A-Frame coupler.

  • Replacement 15,000LB Coupler For a 18' A-Frame Trailer
  • I recommend installing the A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5280-RB on your trailer. This has a cutout with bolt holes for a tongue jack. It places the opening where it is structurally stronger so it is less likely to bend like your current coupler.

  • Selecting A-Frame Coupler Repair Kit
  • Coupler repair kits are usually brand-specific but sometimes a kit made for one brand of coupler can work on another. Still, it is best to find a brand name and/or part number on the item so that you can order the exact correct kit for it. We have several a-frame couplers that look a lot like the unit you referenced, part # CA-5210-B, that you can see on the linked page. You may be able to confirm which you have by comparing your coupler to the photos. All a-frame coupler repair kits...

  • A-Frame Coupler and Trailer Jack Replacement for Shelby 5101 Trailer
  • I looked up your Shelby 5101 trailer and it is an a-frame trailer that has a weld on a-frame coupler that has a jack mounting hole built into it. So since the coupler uses a non-standard bolt pattern for the jack I'd recommend replacing the coupler and jack together like with the # CA5100B for a coupler and then for a jack the # TJA-5000S-B would be a great option.

  • Replacement for Atwood Yoke Style A-Frame Coupler For 2 Inch Hitch Ball
  • I do have an option for you but Atwood was bought out and their replacement parts are no longer available, including the repair kit you would need. The best option is to replace that A-frame coupler with a new one that attaches to a 2 inch hitch ball. I recommend replacing your coupler with the A-Frame Trailer Coupler - Yoke Latch # CA-5210-B which is the same style of coupler that you have now.

  • Replacement Parts or Coupler for UFP CA-50 A-Frame Trailer Coupler
  • UFP was bought out by Dexter Axle a number of years ago and they've been phasing out those parts for a while now so I recommend swapping out your a-frame coupler to one that is currently being manufactured so if you need to replace anything in the future it will be easier to do so. For your application I recommend checking out the Demco 32-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler which comes in Black # DM15633-81 or Red # DM15633-97 and is rated for 21K lbs. This has the smaller 32-Degree A-Frame...

  • Can I Rebuild my RAM A-Frame Trailer Coupler CA-5400-B
  • The A-Frame Trailer Coupler part # CA-5400-B is a full replacement and the only way I know to repair it when it is broken. The Repair Kit for etrailer and Ram A-Frame Couplers part # CA-5100-RK is designed for original trigger latch couplers different than yours. The A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Round Jack Hole part # CA-5280-RB is a nice upgrade that can be made which is a 15K coupler that is easier to use and service. Repairs can be made if you're confident it will work and hold but by...

  • Replacement for Pro Series A-Frame Trailer Coupler with Broken Latch
  • If the trigger broke on your Pro Series A-Frame Trailer Coupler # PSE338050303 then you would need to replace the whole unit. I reached out to my contact at Pro Series who said that they unfortunately do not have carry any replacement parts for this coupler. A similar option would be the A-Frame Coupler # CA5100B which also has a 5,000 lb weight capacity and is compatible with 2" hitch balls. The latch system is a little different but because of this there is a replacement part # CA-5100-RK...

  • Replacement A-Frame Coupler and Jack For Big Tex Trailer With Atwood 88555 2" Trailer Coupler
  • You will need to replace your entire coupler assembly as the Atwood coupler that you have is obsolete and they are not producing any parts for it. I recommend replacing it with the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler # DM14791-97. This coupler uses the same 2" size hitch ball of your Atwood coupler and the eZ-Latch coupler will make connecting to your trailer much easier as you no longer need to raise the latch. You will be able to mount any A-Frame style jack that has a 2-1/4" diameter outer...

  • Solution for Repair Kit for A-Frame Coupler Latch on 1969 Airstream
  • I do have a solution, but those repair kits are designed for an Atwood coupler and have been discontinued. Atwood couplers are no longer made so neither are the parts. The best solution is to replace the coupler with a new one. For a weld-on option you could use the # CA-5400-B or for a bolt-on the # DM13205-95. I have attached some review videos along with a link to all of our A-frame 2-5/16 couplers for your reference.

  • Replacement Coupler for a Wells Cargo Trailer
  • I have a complete replacement option for you, but unfortunately we do not have any confirmed replacement parts for the coupler of your Wells Cargo Trailer. Instead I recommend going ahead and replacing the entire coupler with the Fulton 50-Degree A-Frame Coupler, 2-5/16" Ball, Low-Profile Latch, Primed Finish - 10,000 lbs # FE443050303. This coupler fits standard 50 degree A-frames which your trailer more than likely has, but I recommend measuring this first. I have included a picture...

  • Demco Bolt on A-Frame Coupler to Replace Broken Welded On Coupler
  • The Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Jack Hole item # DM13205-95 that you referenced will fit a standard a-frame trailer. This is a bolt on coupler so you won't have to borrow a welder. To install you will want to use 3/8 inch, grade 5 bolts , approximately 1-1/2 inches long. You will want to use 5 of these bolts per side for a total of 10 bolts. I have attached a detailed diagram of this coupler so you can confirm it fits your trailer before you purchase.

  • When Does An A-Frame Coupler Need Replacing?
  • An A-Frame trailer coupler like # CA-5400-B is bad and needs replaced if it no longer connects to your trailer hitch ball correctly with its latching mechanism, no longer supports the trailer jack, is not solidly connected to your trailer frame (has cracks), or can't handle the weight capacity it was intended to due to corrosion or impact from an accident.

  • Replacing A 4-Bolt Trailer Jack For An A-Frame Trailer Coupler
  • Almost all A-frame jacks now have the triangle or round mounting plate with the 3 bolt-3 inch on center holes. We do not carry anything that has the 4 holes. We do have some electric jacks like the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack - Drop Leg - A-Frame - 23" Lift - 5,000 lbs - Black, # JET-5000 that have a round plate to mount, but the holes are still lined up with the triangular mount design. Unfortunately you will either have to weld the bracket or drill holes in your coupler...
